I work on a contract basis for Custom Laser Works as a graphic designer.
Custom Laser Works is a locally owned and family operated business based in my hometown of Calgary, Canada Custom Laser Works is a business that specializes in designing medals and medal hangers, primarily for sport-oriented families. The majority of their client base are sport organizations or road race organizers, many of which are based in Calgary.
The owner (Tammy Kotze) started the business in 2014 after trying to find her son a medal hanger for swimming, but was not finding any options available anywhere. This inspired her to incorporate Custom Laser Works and invested in a laser cutting and a UV printer.

Bringing a Design into the Physical World
This was a unique experience for me as a graphic designer as designing for laser cut was very different from print. For example, when designing a medal, you have to avoid incorporating any sharp edges into your design since the final design was going to be around someone's neck. That was just one of the few additional factors you have to consider when designing a medal.
